Even if you are not a leader, you are always leading. People notice how we behave and what we do and say as well as what we don’t do or say. We are always setting examples, even if we are not thinking we are, good and bad.
Have you been in a meeting where you are asked if you agree or not and you don’t want to say anything, and no one else does either? Ever find yourself being critical of someone because you are with other’s that are doing just that? Giving advice in your Forum because another member did it? Has a calm or animated person in a meeting calmed you down or escalated your emotions?
If we speak up, if we interrupt people, if we if we are polite, if we are rude, if we gossip, if we are silent (even when someone should speak up), we are encouraging others to do the same. And if we are in a position of leadership, the message is even stronger.
Most families and companies want a space where people are doing the right things, setting good examples and treating each other professionally.
What examples are you setting for others?
“Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right.” – Warren Bennis
“Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one else is watching.” – C.S. Lewis
