A lot of business and self-help gurus offer their opinions on the secret to success - be it discipline, practice, consistency, persistence, risk taking; there is no lack of differing ideas. Here’s mine… BE PRESENT! To get the most out of anything, you have to show up - physically, mentally and emotionally. Makes no difference whether it is in your relationships, your business, your peer groups, your hobbies or your passions.
My marriage and the relationship with my wife and kids does not grow without me showing up and being present (in fact it stagnates if I don’t).
At the martial arts studio I teach and train at, I never know what Grandmaster is going to teach on a given day and the new insight I may gain on my practice from it. I have to be there.
In business, the most powerful changes I implemented came from visiting employees in the field where they worked. I would have never learned the same things just sitting in my office.
In my peer group (YPO Forum), there is no learning opportunity from another member’s shared experience if I am not there to hear it and discuss it.
BE PRESENT!
