Being agile is about the ability to respond, adapt and change reactively without losing the vision of your end goal. Sometime “shit happens” that can throw the best laid plans off course. Emergencies. Policies and procedures that don’t cover everything. Acts of god. “Wrenches” getting thrown at you.
What do you do when you have an unanticipated wrench thrown at you? Take a deep breath and…
1. Remember WHY. When you have a clear, concise vision and remember the the end game it is easier to see alternatives and to keep everyone that is part of helping you on track.
2. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate! Rarely do we do anything in our life that does not involve other people. Communication is key to keeping a team connected and in-sync.
3. Set priorities. In an emergency, everything cannot get done at the same time. Clear priorities have to be set, communicated and agreed to by everyone. Even better… sent one priority. What is the next right thing to do?
4. TEAMWORK! Getting through most difficult situations involves doing it with help. Your family, your team. Together we can accomplish anything!
And remember, sometimes those wrenches can be great opportunities in disguise.
